CHELSEA, MI — In a rivalry matchup featuring dynamic offensive plays and rare special teams fireworks, the Chelsea Bulldogs delivered a resounding 56-21 victory over the Dexter Dreadnaughts. With the win, Chelsea improves to 5-0 on the season and moves to 3-0 in the SEC White. High-Powered First Half Sets the Tone The Bulldogs wasted no time establishing control early in the game. Jax Ichesco kicked off the scoring with a 55-yard touchdown pass to Gibby Ichesco to take a quick 7-0 lead. Chelsea extended its lead late in the first quarter when Gibby Ichesco capped off a 95-yard drive with a 47-yard touchdown run, making it 14-0. Early in the second quarter, Nick White punched in a 1-yard touchdown run to make it 21-0. Special teams then completely blew the game open. Gibby Ichesco electrified the home crowd by breaking loose for a 75-yard punt return touchdown. After Dexter managed to get on the board, Chelsea responded instantly—Gibby Ichesco fielded the ensuing kickoff and returned it 76 yards for another special teams touchdown, putting the score at 35-7. Just before halftime, Jax Ichesco broke free on a 66-yard touchdown run with just over a minute remaining in the second quarter. Dexter added a late touchdown, but Chelsea went into the locker room holding a commanding 42-14 advantage at the half. Closing Out the Rivalry Win Dexter trimmed the deficit to 42-21 early in the third quarter, but Chelsea's rushing attack re-established dominance. Nolan Sciackitano scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to push the lead to 49-21. In the fourth quarter, Jax Ichesco set up his own score with a explosive 71-yard run before finishing off the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run to seal the 56-21 final score. Postgame Reactions Head Coach Noel Dean praised his squad's overall effort while highlighting areas for improvement heading into the second half of the schedule. "Our kids played really hard in all three phases of the ball," Dean said. "Dexter is a really good team. They are highly regarded and we will probably see them again in the playoffs. I'm proud of the way the kids competed up front. We have to clean up the penalty situation that occurred during the entire game. Just need to clean that up." Defensive Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator Tyler Santoro was thrilled by the standout play of the special teams unit, which provided two scores on returns. "I think in the six years I have been here this is the first time we've had two special teams touchdowns in a game," Santoro noted. "We put a lot of emphasis on our special teams. I think more than most, and over the years, that's really benefited us so I was glad to see that kind of come to fruition tonight." Quarterback Jax Ichesco reflected on the team's balanced execution and his key dynamic run right before the break. "I thought the offense did great and the defense did great," Jax Ichesco said. "We put up a lot of points, got some good stops, but we got to cut down on the penalties at the end of the day. A lot of flags on us and we have to work on that." Regarding his long touchdown run late in the second quarter, he added, "We just put that plan this week for this game and it actually wasn't working great in practice, but we got it done here tonight so that was great." What's Next The undefeated Bulldogs will return home next Friday, October 2nd, to face Ypsilanti for Homecoming. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
