CHELSEA, MI - The Chelsea Varsity football team stormed out of the gates and never looked back, overpowering Tecumseh 63-6 to maintain a strong grip on the SEC White. With the win, the Bulldogs move to 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. Tone Set From the Very First Snap Chelsea made an immediate statement. The defense forced a three and out and the Bulldogs then found the end zone on their very first offensive play—the second time they have accomplished the feat this season. Offensive lineman Caleb Fitch reflected on the quick spark: "That was cool. Definitely that 1st play. Just setting the tone. We setting the tone on defense, and the early score really set the tone for the rest of the night. We just kept rolling with it." The opening score set off a relentless first-half avalanche. Gibby Ichesco kicked off the scoring frenzy on that first offensive play with a 50-yard touchdown run at 10:13 in the 1st Quarter. Nick White quickly expanded the lead with a pair of touchdown runs, including a 23-yarder at 3:21. Jax Ichesco then took over through the air and on the ground, delivering a 2-yard touchdown pass to Tyson Linde and a 15-yard strike to Gibby Ichesco in the 2nd Quarter. After Tecumseh broke onto the board with a 73-yard touchdown run, Chelsea answered immediately. Gibby Ichesco broke loose for a 57-yard touchdown run, followed by a 1-yard goal-line push from Jax Ichesco to send Chelsea into halftime up 49-6. Jax Ichesco added a 40-yard touchdown run early in the 3rd Quarter, and Easton Fahlstrom sealed the victory with a 57-yard touchdown run in the 4th. Praise for the Line and Defense Head coach Noel Dean pointed to the dominant play up front as the catalyst for the early explosive play. "The offensive line just amazes me how good they're playing," Dean said. "They have really made leaps and bounds over the last couple weeks. I think the scrimmage and the early season games that we're playing, our kids are embracing the toughness you need to have, and then you flip it over and see what we're doing defensively. We're still out three starters who have been out for the last two weeks. We still have a lot of room for improvement, and we're looking forward to next week. We just want to keep getting better and better. We haven't arrived yet and we don't plan on arriving now. It's not time yet." Defensive coordinator Tyler Santoro was equally pleased with his group's focus after starting the night with a prompt 3-and-out. "The attention to detail that our kids have had throughout the weeks is really impressive," Santoro said. "Their maturity is beyond their years. They really get the game of football and that makes our job really easy." Rivalry Week Ahead The Bulldogs now turn their attention to a massive rivalry game next Friday as they host the Dexter Dreadnaughts, looking to avenge last season's road loss. When asked about keeping the team grounded ahead of the big matchup, Dean expressed full faith in his roster's mindset. "I don't think I have to worry about it with this group," Dean noted. "It's one of the most mature groups I've ever coached. And they are gonna keep stacking bricks and keep getting better. Every game is its own resume." Santoro echoed that sentiment regarding defensive preparation. "I think our theme all year is just keeping things about us," Santoro stated. "I think we need to continue to do what we have been doing and that will put us in a position to succeed. There will be no pep talk or anything needed to get the kids ready to go for this one. They know what this game's about and we'll have them ready to go." For players like Fitch, the mindset remains simple: stay focused on long-term growth. "We are still preparing for the playoffs," Fitch said. "So just trying to think like that and just going week to week and thinking about performing week to week. We want to get one percent better each and every day."
