Chelsea School District Welcomes Eric McCalla as New High School Athletic Director

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CHELSEA, MI — The Chelsea School District is thrilled to announce the appointment of Eric McCalla as the new Athletic Director for Chelsea High School. McCalla, a lifelong resident of the Chelsea community, brings an extensive and diverse background in educational leadership, ranging from classroom instruction to top-tier district administration. McCalla returns home to Chelsea with a wealth of experience across multiple school districts in Michigan. Most recently, he served as the Superintendent of Bellevue Community Schools. Prior to his superintendency, McCalla held crucial building-level leadership positions, including serving as Principal at Westland John Glenn High School and Principal at Manchester High School. Notably, McCalla is no stranger to the unique demands of athletic administration, having previously served as both the Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at Grass Lake High School. He began his career in education as a dedicated classroom teacher, establishing a student-first foundation that has guided his entire administrative career. "Eric’s deep roots in our community, combined with his proven track record as an athletic director, principal, and superintendent, make him uniquely qualified to lead our athletic programs. He understands the proud tradition of Chelsea Athletics and possesses the administrative expertise to support our student-athletes, coaches, and families at the highest level." As a lifelong Chelsea community member, McCalla has a personal investment in the success and culture of the Bulldogs. His blended experience in both sports administration and K-12 education will provide a seamless transition for the athletic department as it continues to pursue excellence in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and at the state level. McCalla officially began his duties as Athletic Director on July 1st.
