Tuesday, May 26th will go down as one of the most exciting days of the spring for Chelsea Athletics. Between historic individual performances, regional trophies, and a heart-stopping penalty shootout, the Bulldogs left everything on the field and course. Boys Golf: Regional Champions! The Varsity Boys Golf team put together a masterclass in consistency to capture the Regional Championship title with a blistering team score of 315. With the victory, the Bulldogs officially punch their ticket to the MHSAA State Finals. The Bulldogs completely dominated the top of the leaderboard: Parker Westcott: 74 (Regional Runner-Up, 2nd overall) Shawn Potter: 77 (3rd overall) Kevin Scott: 80 (6th overall) Logan Fansler: 84 (14th overall) Girls Soccer: A District Epic Against Marshall The Varsity Girls Soccer team defined the word "grit" in their MHSAA District opener, overcoming multiple deficits to defeat Marshall 4-3 in a penalty shootout. Chelsea dug themselves into an early 2-0 hole before Avery Cousino found the back of the net to cut it to 2-1. Marshall answered back to push the score to 3-1, but Gianna Barney delivered a beautiful strike just before the whistle to make it 3-2 at halftime. With just 13 minutes left in regulation, Cousino struck again for her second goal of the night, burying a flawless pass from Kate McKenzie to knot the game at 3-3. After two scoreless overtime periods, the game went to a shootout. Keeper Izzy D'Alecy was heroic in net, turning away two Marshall penalty kicks, setting the stage for Emma Ruszkiewicz to drive home the game-winning kick. Up Next: The Bulldogs advance to the District Championship game this Thursday at Mason (6:00 PM kickoff) against the winner of Mason/Parma Western. Softball: McCalla Fans 13 in District Win Varsity Softball opened their postseason push with a fundamentally sound 4-1 victory over Fowlerville in the MHSAA Districts. The Ace: Lily McCalla was unhittable at times, throwing a complete game and racking up 13 strikeouts to keep the Gladiators at bay. The Bats: Ashley Sherwood led the offense with two hits, including a double and an RBI, while Ella Root added a double and an RBI of her own. Up Next: Chelsea will take a quick break from tournament play to host Bedford tomorrow before continuing their district run on Saturday against Canton Prep. Baseball: Late Rally Falls Short Against Dexter It was a classic rivalry battle for Varsity Baseball, but the Bulldogs ultimately came up just short in a tough 5-4 loss to Dexter. Trailing late, Chelsea mounted a furious comeback attempt but couldn't quite push the tying run across. Nate Sobiechowski paced the offense with two hits and an RBI, while Parker Clark drove in two runs on one hit. Up Next: The Bulldogs will quickly shift focus to the postseason. Chelsea hosts the MHSAA Districts this Saturday, opening up against Pinckney at 10:00 AM. What a day to be a Bulldog! Congratulations to our Regional Champions and good luck to everyone advancing this week! #GoBulldogs
