It was a busy and hard-fought Wednesday for Chelsea Athletics, highlighted by a dominant postseason soccer shutout and a pair of split doubleheaders on the diamond against SEC rival Tecumseh. Girls Soccer: Bulldogs Blank Northwest in Districts The Chelsea Girls Soccer team kicked off their MHSAA District tournament in style, blanking Northwest 2-0. The Bulldogs' defense kept the sheet clean, while Avery Cousino and Logan Schoeneman provided the offensive sparks, each finding the back of the net to secure the victory and advance Chelsea to the next round. Baseball: Paoletti Dominates Game 1, Tecumseh Answers in Game 2 The varsity baseball team split their doubleheader against a tough Tecumseh squad, showcasing strong pitching early on but falling just short of a sweep. Game 1 (Chelsea 7, Tecumseh 0): Preston Paoletti was the star of the opener, delivering a masterpiece on the mound. Paoletti pitched 6 2/3 innings of shutout baseball, racking up 8 strikeouts to guide the Bulldogs to a comfortable 7-0 win. Game 2 (Tecumseh 6, Chelsea 4): Tecumseh's bats woke up in the nightcap to earn them a split. Chelsea's offense fought hard, led by Cadan Basar, who went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs, but the Bulldogs couldn't quite complete the comeback. Softball: Bulldogs Bounce Back for Doubleheader Split Similar to the baseball team, the varsity softball squad traded blows with Tecumseh, rebounding from an early loss to take the second game of the afternoon. Game 1 (Tecumseh 4, Chelsea 2): Chelsea struggled to string hits together in the opener. Kaydee Absher provided virtually all of the Bulldogs' offensive production, drawing 3 walks and driving in both of Chelsea's runs in the narrow 4-2 defeat. Game 2 (Chelsea 8, Tecumseh 4): The Bulldogs' offense came alive in the finale to secure an 8-4 victory. Brooke Barlage spearheaded the attack, turning in a stellar 3-for-5 performance at the plate, which included a powerful home run to help seal the win.
