Chelsea Varsity Baseball Walks It Off Against Pioneer

By GameChanger Media Chelsea Baseball took Saturday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 7-6 walk-off victory over Pioneer. The game was tied at six in the bottom of the eighth when Nick Schultz singled, scoring one run. The Bulldogs came back to win despite trailing 6-1 in the sixth. A single by Tyson Linde on a full count put Chelsea on the board in the bottom of the first. Pioneer captured the lead, 3-1, in the top of the second when Linde induced Michael Bennett to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and Juan Guzman~Capecchi drew a walk, scoring one run. The Bulldogs flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 7-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Schultz that drove in two. Linde started the game for Chelsea. The starter surrendered zero hits and three runs (one earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking five. Dane Nesbit began the game for Pioneer. The starter surrendered two hits and one run over five innings, striking out one and walking four. Jax Ichesco, Preston Paoletti, Kaiden Trevino, Wyatt Matusik, and Gus Herter each came on in relief for Chelsea and shutdown Pioneer. Chelsea amassed nine hits in the game. Schultz led the Bulldogs with three runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The center fielder went 2-for-5 on the day. Schultz and Nathan Sobiechowski each collected two hits for Chelsea. Ichesco had three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing nine walks for the game. Ichesco and Schultz each stole multiple bases for Chelsea. The Bulldogs stole five bases and turned two double plays in the game. Anders Whitridge, Eli Katz, and Bem Sommer each collected one hit for Pioneer. Whitridge and Bennett each drove in one run for Pioneer. Lorenzo Penn paced Pioneer with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting 10 walks for the game. Sommer stole two bases. Pioneer ran wild on the base paths, amassing five stolen bases for the game.
