While much of the local sports calendar was wiped clean by cancellations today, the Chelsea Bulldogs’ varsity girls soccer and boys lacrosse teams managed to beat the weather and get their games in. It was a night of mixed results on the road, highlighted by a dominant defensive performance on the pitch and a tough learning experience on the turf. Soccer: Girls Dominate in Jackson The varsity girls soccer team continued their impressive early-season form with a commanding 4–0 shutout victory at Jackson. The Bulldogs’ attack proved too much for the Vikings to handle, as Chelsea improved their conference record to 3-1 in the SEC White. Leading the Charge: Avery Cousino stayed hot, finding the back of the net twice to keep her scoring streak alive. Team Effort: Emma Ruszkiewicz and Kate McKenzie each added a goal to round out the scoring. The Standings: With this win, the Bulldogs solidify their position as a top contender in the SEC White division. Lacrosse: Turnovers Haunt Bulldogs at Dexter Across town, the varsity boys lacrosse team faced a tougher road, falling 16-3 Dexter. Despite the final score, the game was a gritty battle for the first 24 minutes. Chelsea went into halftime trailing only 6-3, playing some of their most competitive lacrosse of the season. However, the second half proved difficult as execution errors mounted. The Bulldogs struggled with transitions, giving up 10 failed clears through the first three quarters. "Without those turnovers, we could have had a much closer game," the coaching staff noted, pointing to the missed opportunities to keep the pressure on Dexter. Defensive Highlights If there was a silver lining, it was the play of the defensive unit. Under heavy fire, the backline remained resilient and aggressive. Key performances included: Nate Van Orman, Josh Corcoran, Camden Kleitch, Owen Picklesimer, and Liam Favre. While the offense looks to clean up the transitions, the defense proved they have the grit to keep the Bulldogs in any game. What’s Next? Both teams will look to carry these lessons into their next matchups as the spring season kicks into high gear. Go Bulldogs!
