Bulldog Softball Dominates Game 1 of Doubleheader at Pinckney, but the Pirates Respond to Win Game 2

By GameChanger Media Ashley Sherwood hit two home runs and drove in five as Chelsea defeated Pirates 21-3 on Monday. Sherwood homered in the second and fourth innings. The Bulldogs got on the board in the top of the first inning after Brooke Barlage homered to center field, the Pirates committed an error, and the Bulldogs scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run. Natally Pease (2026 Northwood University) homered to center field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first for the Pirates. Four more Chelsea runs crossed the plate in the second inning to extend the lead to 7-2. Sherwood homered to center field, scoring two runs, Ella Root singled, scoring one run, and Peyton Myers singled, scoring one run. The Bulldogs scored seven runs on six hits in the top of the third inning. Barlage singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Root homered to center field, scoring three runs, an error scored one run, and Mia Kuboushek singled, scoring one run. Two more Bulldog runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 16-3. Sherwood hit a solo home run to right field, and Chloe Bagbey singled, scoring one run. Chelsea scored five runs on six hits in the top of the fifth inning. Delanie Monica singled, scoring one run, Sherwood doubled, scoring two runs, a passed ball scored one run, and Root singled, scoring one run. Sasha Henriksen earned the win for Chelsea. The pitcher gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking one. Pease took the loss for the Pirates. The starting pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, surrendering 14 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits, striking out five and walking five. Chelsea piled up 20 hits in the game. Root went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Chelsea Varsity Bulldogs in hits. Lilly McCalla, Kuboushek, Barlage, and Bagbey each collected multiple hits for Chelsea. The Bulldogs had a strong eye at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Henriksen and Myers led the team with two free passes each. Pease provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Pirates Varsity with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Addison Wroblewski (2027 Madonna University) set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading the Pirates with two hits in three at bats. The Bulldogs dropped game 2 by a score of 6-3.
