The Chelsea boys varsity lacrosse team proved their resilience on Monday night, mounting a massive comeback before ultimately falling to Lincoln 13-11 in a game cut short by Mother Nature. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs' ability to fight back from an early deficit showed the grit of a team that refuses to go down without a fight. A Tale of Two Halves The Bulldogs faced a steep uphill battle early on, struggling through a slow start that saw them trailing 6-2. However, Chelsea found their second gear in the middle frames, systematically chipping away at the Lincoln lead. The offensive surge was once again spearheaded by Cody Cox, who turned in another stellar performance with 4 (potentially 5) goals on the night. Thanks to that relentless pressure, the Bulldogs successfully erased the gap, knotting the score at 11-11 late in the contest. The Turning Point With the game tied and momentum swinging in Chelsea’s favor, the Bulldogs were hit with a costly two-minute unreleasable penalty. Lincoln took full advantage of the man-up opportunity, firing in two quick goals to pull ahead 13-11. Just as Chelsea prepared for one final push, the weather intervened. Lightning in the area forced officials to end the game with four minutes remaining on the clock, preventing the Bulldogs from completing what was shaping up to be a legendary comeback. Coach’s Perspective While the scoreboard didn't favor the Bulldogs this time, the effort did not go unnoticed. Coming back from a four-goal deficit to tie the game in hostile territory speaks volumes about the team’s character. "I'm so proud of them for not giving up and fighting until the end," the coaching staff noted. "Still not the result we were looking for, but the heart was there." Looking Ahead The Bulldogs (1-1) will look to clean up the early-game jitters and discipline as they head back to the practice field to prepare for their game at Dexter on Wednesday. Go Bulldogs!
