On Wednesday, April 8, the Chelsea Girls Track & Field team competed in Pinckney against both Pinckney and Tecumseh in their first SEC White conference competition of the season. A competition three days after Spring Break is hard for any athlete. Add in a strong wind along the home stretch, along with chilly temperatures, and these Bulldogs had to fight hard in all their performances. The field events led the way for Chelsea, but unfortunately they fell to both Pinckney (86 vs 51) and Tecumseh (74 vs 63). Some notable performances include: ● Melina King, sophomore, threw a personal best of 30’ 8.5” to win shot put ● Alli Harms, sophomore, took third place in discus with a personal best throw of 72’ 0” ● Gabby Ferrell, freshmen, jumped a personal best 14’ 6.5” in long jump to place second ● Karlie VanRemortel, senior captain, won pole vault with a jump of 9’ 0” ● India Barney, senior captain, placed second in 100 hurdles with a time of 18.04 ● Teagan Hill, junior, ran 13.20 to win the 100 ● King placed second in the 100 with a time of 13.46 ● The varsity 4 x 100 relay team of Barney, Ansley Ahlstrom (freshman), King, and Hill ran a season best of 51.88 to win the event ● Brinna Wenzel, senior, placed second in the 400 with a time of 1:06.91 ● Juliette Beda, freshman, placed third in the 400 with a time of 1:07.42 ● Barney ran 52.51 to place third in the 300 hurdles ● King took first in the 200 with a time of 26.86 ● Ella Wiese, freshman, recorded personal bests in all four of her events: 12’ 10.25” in the long jump, 20.59 in the 100 hurdles, and 58.35 in the 300 hurdles On Friday, April 10, select members from the Chelsea Girls Track & Field team traveled to Fowlerville for the Fowlerville Early Season Open. The weather was cold, the ground was wet, but the performances were on fire. The Bulldogs defeated sixteen other teams to win the invite and take home the winning plaque. Conditions were not favorable for most, but field events and hurdlers led the way for the team.
