The Chelsea girls varsity water polo team showcased their grit and flair for the dramatic this weekend, finishing the Mason Tournament with two wins in three matches. After a tough start to the day, the Bulldogs found their rhythm to leave the pool with plenty of momentum. A Day of Resilience The morning session started with a defensive battle against a disciplined Troy squad. Despite a hard-fought effort, the Bulldogs fell 7-2. However, Chelsea didn’t let the setback linger, responding with a dominant offensive explosion and a nail-biting finish in their final two games. Dominance and Drama The Bulldogs' turnaround was fueled by high-octane scoring and elite goaltending: Chelsea 15, Portage 2: The Bulldogs completely overwhelmed Portage in their second match. While the offense was clicking, Ruby Jackson was a brick wall in net, racking up an incredible 20 saves to keep Portage from ever finding a footing. Chelsea 8, Mason 7: The tournament finale against the host team provided the highlight of the season so far. In a back-and-forth thriller, the game appeared headed for overtime until Ruby Jackson took matters into her own hands. At the final buzzer, Jackson launched a spectacular shot from half-pool that found the back of the net, securing the 8-7 victory. Tournament Takeaways Finishing the weekend 2-2, the Bulldogs proved they can win in various ways—whether through a blowout or a last-second thriller. Jackson’s dual-threat performance as both a shot-stopper and a buzzer-beater scorer will certainly be the talk of the locker room as the team prepares for their next slate of games.
