Kaydee Absher’s Big Day Propels Chelsea Softball Past Mattawan in Game 1 By GameChanger Media Kaydee Absher drove in four runs on three hits to lead Chelsea past Mattawan 14-4 on Tuesday. Absher hit a home run to center field in the third inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the second inning, scoring one. Chelsea got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Ella Root doubled to center field, and Mattawan committed an error, each scoring one run. Chelsea scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning. Brooke Barlage doubled, scoring one run, Ashley Sherwood doubled, scoring one run, Absher singled, scoring one run, and Peyton Myers singled, scoring two runs. Absher homered to center field, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third for the Chelsea. Sasha Henriksen earned the win for Chelsea. The starting pitcher surrendered seven hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out one and walking three. Skylar Baucher took the loss for Mattawan. The starter went two and two-thirds innings, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on seven hits, striking out none and walking four. Sherwood collected two hits for Chelsea in two at bats. Chelsea had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Lilly McCalla and Sherwood led the team with two free passes each. Chelsea Varsity Bulldogs Firing On All Cylinders With DH Sweep of Mattawan By GameChanger Media Chelsea easily dispatched Mattawan in game 2 of their DH on Tuesday, 12-2. Mattawan got on the board in the first inning but Chelsea flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring six runs on two hits to take the lead, 6-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Mia Kuboushek that drove in two. Chelsea added five more runs in the bottom of the third inning on five hits. Lilly McCalla singled, scoring two runs, Ashley Sherwood homered to center field, scoring two runs, and Ella Root doubled, scoring one run. McCalla earned the win for Chelsea. The pitcher allowed three hits and two runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out nine and walking two. Harper Quigno took the loss for Mattawan. The pitcher went two and one-third innings, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on six hits, striking out two and walking four. Chelsea tallied 11 hits in the game. Ella Root provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Chelsea with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. McCalla set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Chelsea with three hits in three at bats. Kaydee Absher collected two hits for Chelsea in two at bats. Absher led Chelsea with two walks.
